Ranking the Sacramento Pizza Scene
Ranking the offerings of Sacramento pizza to find the best comes with a few nuances. With different types of pizza and purposes out there, I found it a bit presumptuous to simply say, Restaurant X has the best pizza. Instead, I’ve broken down pizza by style, type, and purpose.
For example, you can find the best all-around pizza if you are into the Farm to Fork Scene or the best if you are looking for the best late-night pizza by the slice. The pizzas all have their place in the hands of a pizzaiolo – a person who makes pizza.
Overall Best Pizza in Sacramento
Ranked in alphabetical order because I simply could not choose, these are the two best pizza restaurants you can find in Sacramento. Plan on your life never being the same once you’ve had dough that comes out of these pizzerias.
Federalist Public House
Come to Federalist for the classic Neapolitan-style pizza you will find in Italy. Their pizzaiolo, Crystal, even traveled to Italy to perfect her craft. You can also find deep-dish styles, but truth be told, their Neapolitan is on point.

Masullo Pizza
Choose your pizza with or without tomato sauce. Either way, you’re getting some incredible dough, fresh ingredients, and a creative menu selection.
The dough is soft, light, and everything you’d want for a pizza. I love to order two or three with the intent on taking some home for leftovers.

Casual Comfort
Delicious pizza is a casual, relaxed environment. These are some of the best pizzas in Sacramento meant to bring a feeling of comfort to your belly, and not necessarily use artisan-proofed dough and specialty ingredients. This is the pizza to watch the game with, or on a rainy day when you want to feel warm, or hang out with friends and family and enjoy a beverage with a hot cheesy mess.
Old Town Pizza and Tap House
Stepping into Old Town Pizza feels like you’ve gone partially back into the 90’s in the best of ways. Creaky wooden booths, cheap beer, and generous pizza toppings to your hearts desire. The difference is the beer is great craft beer, much of it local, and the pizza is outstanding, far from the greasy pile of dough you might get from a dive.
Make your own or choose from their menu. One of my favorite things about the pizza here is the topping add-ons are significantly cheaper than other places.
The bar seating area is generally busy and always someone there, which sometimes leads to a fun, boisterous atmosphere, but a few steps away, you can find a bit of quiet in the booths.
This pizzeria is often cited as the best pizza in Elk Grove hands down, which I’m on board with.

A staple of Carmichael, this is a go-to for anyone seeking fresh, piping hot pizza, a friendly low key atmosphere that make you feel cozy and at home. Original recipes and concepts grace the menu or you can Create Your Own.
While the original Mark and Monica, the original owners who opened this restaurant in 1986 have passed, the restaurant lives on through their daughter, Lauren, niece Kelly and her husband Joe.

Chicago Deep Dish
For those well versed in a true deep dish, you might find yourself mildly disappointed by the Chicago-style pizza scene here in Sacramento. But relative to California? Not too shabby!
Zelda’s is going to get all the local love and for good reason. However, for accessibility and multiple locations, Chicago Fire will give you faster, easier access to that deep pie you are craving.

Tudo Un Poco
Dine at Tudo Un Poco for Mexican-Italian fusion pizza. This charming restaurant is incredibly welcoming with an outdoor patio to share a pie with your friends. Creative pizzas grace the menu – owner Isabella told me she’s been making these delicious creations for over 23 years now. This is the kind of restaurant that will have you coming back to try the different creations.
I have to admit, I was initially apprehensive about the white sauce on all the pizzas – but after sampling, I felt it works well with the pizzas. Thick crust is cooked perfectly – not underdone and not burnt – just right to bite into without destroying the roof of your mouth. Hearty, filling slices will allow you to plan on taking some home and enjoying again for breakfast.
The Chile Verde with carnitas, tomatillo, red onion, tomatoes, jalapeños, and queso fresco, Jalisco Heat, with white sauce, beans, chorizo, jalapeños, to the Yucatan with black beans, carnitas, and jalapeños, or the Chicken Mole Pizza, Todo Toluca with chorizo, linguica, jalapeños, and feta, or even the Punjabi Pizza.
