Located on the North Fork of the American River, Lake Clementine is one of the most serene kayaking spots in Northern California. Both Upper and Lower Lake Clementine are great spots for paddling, kayaking, hiking, boating, and swimming.
Upper Lake clementine
Only open seasonally, this spot has gained popularity over the last couple of years. The water around Upper Lake Clementine is running very quickly this year due to the excess snow melt. Practice caution when entering the water this year.
With around 4 miles of kayaking potential, Upper Lake Clementine has made my list of awesome kayaking spots in Northern California. Water levels are higher this year. This area fills up quickly on the weekend.
lower Lake clementine
Lower Lake Clementine is the dammed portion of the American River that allows for boat access and boat-in camping. The water is often very calm, which makes for some great water-skiing or wakeboarding.
Only a certain number of boats are allowed on this small lake at once, so get there early if you want a spot. There are plenty of beaches to relax on for the day, but most are reserved for camping and will be marked with a sign.
